That’s what led me, along with the Nike and Laureus Sport for Good launch a new grassroots sports program for the girls. It’s called Play Academy with Naomi Osakaand our goal is to help level the playing field by changing the game for girls is to start off in Tokyo, japan, a city that means so much to me and my family.
Growing up, the idea of a role model is not something that I’ve always dreamed about. You have to dream about winning Grand Slams and becoming No. 1 in the world, but you don’t have to worry about what’s going to happen when you actually get there.
Sometimes you are lucky enough to have the dreams come true, but before you even think about them.
Sometimes you are lucky enough to realize that all of this is leading up to something much, much bigger than you are.
I can’t wait to start Playing with it once more. I hope that the girls will learn new skills and perhaps discover a new favourite activity, since you never know what you might be able to take it.
But I also hope that they will have fun, gain confidence, and realize just how powerful girls can be, regardless of who you are, where you come from, or what color your skin is.
Those who know what to do? Maybe one day they will look around and realize that they have become role models for others.
