Mordo was finally making his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While it had been suspected, Chiwetel Ejiofor, has confirmed that he will reprise his role in the Doctor Strange is in the Multiverse of Madness. The actor also promises that the questions about his whereabouts during the recent MCU events, in particular, Thanos’ snap-in and Avengers: Endgameit will be explained to you.
Chiwetel Ejiofor and is currently promoting his new Netflix movie Many Of The Older Generationwhich is set to debut next month. In a recent interview he was asked about Doctor Strange 2. While the actor couldn’t say much, he did confirm the return. Asked specifically about where Mordo was in a fight with Thanos during the Avengers: Endgamethe actor was tight-lipped, but that is a very promising tease. Here’s what he had to say.
“Everything is going to be revealed.”
When last we saw Mordo, he worked with Stephen Strange and Wong in order to help save the world from Dormammu. Mordo, which was Strange, my mentor, had a great difference of opinion as to the sorcerer ” s decision to use the time magic to defeat the villain. Mordo was also disillusioned by his teacher, The Ancient one, for similar reasons. He ran away from his wizard mates, and a bit of a bad turn in the post-credits scene, which was included in the Doctor Strange.
With that in mind, it was always on the assumption that Mordo would be to have a role to play in the future. Out of the box, Scott Derrickson was set to return as director. However, Derrickson parted ways with the project over creative differences, but remains on board as executive producer. Instead, Sam Raimi (Amazing Spider-Man, The Walking Dead) has been tapped to take the helm of the film. For a discussion of the Raimi take, Chiwetel Ejiofor, expressed his excitement.
“He has been on the rise. I am very, very excited about it. Of course, we were kind of interrupted… but, hopefully, we’ll be back on track, and continued on quickly, so I’m very excited about it.”
Plot details have been largely kept under wraps up to this point. It was previously revealed that the a Nightmare would most likely be the villain of the piece when Scott Derrickson and writer C. Robert Cargill were on board. Whether that will change with Sam Raimi at the helm it remains to be seen. What is certain is that this has to be the longest gorge, bay, by the way), between a solo event in the history of the MCU, as in the first film, hit theaters in 2016.
Benedict Cumberbatch will return as Stephen Strange, with Benedict Wong on board as Hand. It was previously reported that Rachel McAdams would not be returning as Christine Palmer, but a lot has changed since this first came to light. Doctor Strange is in the Multiverse of Madness recently, it was postponed for a second time. The sequel is now set to hit theaters on March 25, 2022.
